Thank you!!!

I would like to thank you for waiting for the blog to be updated. It has been a couple of really busy weeks here at school. We will be having a cotton candy sale tomorrow for $0.50 a bag. This is a great way to support our school and have a special treat on a Friday afternoon. Next week will be a full week of school. We will be in Unit 2 Week 5.

October 21-25

Another great week is coming to a close. This week we started working on animal reports that the students will turn into PowerPoint presentations. Please keep checking in on the student work tab for more great samples of what your student is doing in class. 

Next week we will have our Halloween party on Thursday. The parade will start at 1:30 then the party around 2:45ish. If you would like to send treats with your student please feel free to do so, I know the kids love to see what everyone brings. Please no homemade treats this is a school wide rule. Also if you want to come in the class you must have a background check done first. If you don't have one done and would like to come to the Halloween party stop by the office and fill out the paperwork and you can still participate in our party. 

We are also collecting food as part of our Chobani Good Food Drive. Foods that they will accept are: 

  • brown rice
  • whole grain noodles
  • plain instant oatmeal
  • whole grain crackers
  • whole grain, low sugar cereal
  • whole grain cereal bar
  • canned/pouch meats packed in water
  • natural peanut butters
  • low sodium canned beans
  • canned fruit in its own juices

Unit 2

All of the spelling, vocabulary, and high frequency words have been added to the blog under the tab Wonder. We will be talking about animals and how they live and survive out in the wild. This will be a great chance for your student to learn about many different types of animals. We will also be working on writing a How-To Text. This is going to allow your student to write a paper explaining how to do a specific task. We are going to be doing geometry in math. We are working with shapes and area right now, this is a hard concept for kids to understand. If you have any questions please feel free to get in touch with me.

Updates

Please notice that the spelling and vocabulary lists for this coming week have been updated. We also have a PTA meeting this week if you would like to attend. It will be on Friday at 11:40 in the library. If you volunteered to help in with parties this year the room parent or the PTA should be getting in touch with you over the next week or two.

Student Drop Off

Parents please remember to drop your students off in front of or in back of the school not on the side of the school. It is unsafe to have parents driving all the way back to the playground to drop off students. This is a school wide rule. Thank you helping us put your student's safety first!

This week

This week we are still working on the Wonders Unit 1 Lesson 4. We have a short week this week so there is no school on Thursday and Friday. If you still wanted to order from the book orders please feel free to send those back. With the weather getting colder please make sure that your student has a warm coat to wear at recess.

  • September 24th, 2013, Tuesday- Read Like An Eagle Assembly 1 pm 
In second grade we do not participate in the hearing/vision screening, however, if you have concerns please let me know and I will request that your student be checked. The Read Like An Eagle Assembly is just our kick off to the program. This program is meant to encourage all students to read.

Open House

We are all getting so excited for the new school year! Let’s start the year off with an amazing open house. The Harrison Open House will be on Thursday, August 29, 2013. The open house will be from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. This will be a great time to come and meet your student's new teacher and drop off your school supplies. .

May 24th

May 24th will be a busy day for the second grade. We have our school picnic as well as our field trip to the YMCA City Pool. Students who ordered yearbooks will be receiving them on that day during the school picnic. If you have any questions please feel free to get in touch with me.

Good Morning

This week we have a full five days to work and learn in the class. We have our awards parties for the kids who earned it for the Math-A-Thon.  We will be reading our last story in our unit on courage. Please note that the spelling and vocabulary pages have changed. Our next unit will be on our country and its people. We have our family fun night coming up so please be working with your child on their art project. Sorry for the long time between the posts it has been a busy couple of weeks. Please remember that there is NO SCHOOL on Monday, February 18, 2013. We are working on our dinosaur reports so you can expect those home in the next couple of weeks. We are going to be starting our new unit on Fossils. This unit is very difficult so please remind your student to study every day. I am going to start sending home spelling words home the week before so that your student can have some extra time to study.

 

We are also going to be going on a field trip on January 29. This will cost $2.50. Please make sure to send the fee as soon as possible. If you have any questions please feel free to get a hold of me.

January 18th is a half day. The kids will be released at 1:30, this is the end of the 2nd quarter.
